About LightenUp

Welcome! My name is Rebecca. I’m a 50 year old wife, mother, graphic designer and now – part-time blogger. I grew up in the church having been raised by Christian parents who were good, decent people and well respected in our community. We worshiped and learned about Jesus in a variety of churches in my young life – Methodist, Baptist, Non-denominational… but where I learned the most was the time my mother and father. My parents had devotions at home and taught my sister and me the truths of God found in scripture. They also modeled these truths in their lives without being judgmental. They weren’t perfect and made mistakes, but when they did, they displayed their most admirable spiritual trait – humility. When my mother or father screwed up in some way or another that affected me, I would get an “I’m so sorry, will you please forgive me for ____________.” This choice to humble themselves even before their kids left an indelible mark on my memory. I learned that true strength is found in vulnerability and Godly humility.

I’m dedicating this blog to sharing simple yet powerful truths found in the Bible – truths which set us free from fear, doubt, pride, self-destructive thinking and behavior. Christianity isn’t just punching a ticket that gets you into heaven. It’s a relationship. A vibrant, loving relationship with our Creator, Comforter and Savior. But it takes time. Time to be quiet and listen to that still, small voice and respond. Time to read His words. Time to examine our hearts and choose to surrender ourselves to God’s saving grace. Time to cast our cares on the Lord.

In my study of the Bible and 50 years of experience on this planet, I’ve identified a few key disciplines essential in adopting and maintaining a healthy spiritual and mental attitude in life:

1 – Trusting God

2 – Humility

3 – Forgiveness

4 – Letting Go

5 – Living with Purpose

6 – Actively Resting

I’ll unpack biblical truths on each of these topics and hopefully you’ll glean some insights that can help you realize how much you are loved, significant, secure and safe in the care of your heavenly Father. Together we can lighten up as we learn to trust God, humble ourselves and cast our cares upon our Lord. Let’s lighten up!
