Leaning On God’s Everlasting Trustworthiness
Trusting God isn’t just a “one and done” kind of thing… like you wake up one morning and you just trust God implicitly and without question. It’s a conscious choice, a decision you exercise daily as you face the challenges of life. As a result, you’ll grow through in your relationship with Him and experience His faithfulness. His timing may not always be to your liking and you may get an occasional “no” to whatever question you’re asking, but you can rest assured knowing that He is always there with you and that He never changes. You can ALWAYS count on Him to be there for you. You just have to be still and know that He is God. (Psalm 46:10)
This is where comfort comes into play. Boldly placing your trust in God requires you to lean into him, much like my daughter Olivia leaned into me during her physical pain in the ER after an ATV accident. She trusted me enough to allow me to comfort her. She received the most comfort when I reminded her that I was there for her even when the pain got worse as her wounds were being tended. Trusting God and receiving His comfort doesn’t automatically remove all pain, but it leaves you with an assurance that you won’t be alone in the struggle. Where we are weak, God is strong 2 Corinthians 12:10. Our value and significance are never more sure than when we are at our lowest point. Our vulnerabilities allow room for our Father to come in and lift us up. Paul wrote:
“Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” 2 Corinthians 12:9-10
Jesus’ very nature is to give, sacrificing all that He is for you. His redemptive work on the cross not only paid the price for our sin, it demonstrated the unfathomable love God has for you. Someone who never changes and has given their very life for you is worthy of your trust. God encourages us numerous times all throughout the Bible that He will be with us, that He will never leave us. My prayer for you is that the next time you have an opportunity to trust God with something in your life, you’ll remember a few of the following scriptures so that you make a decision based on the truths you’ve hidden in your heart about the trustworthiness of your Father!
‘David also said to Solomon his son, “Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD God, my God, is with you.”’ 1 Chronicles 28:20
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6
“The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.” Deuteronomy 31:8
“No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Joshua 1:5
“For the LORD will not reject his people; he will never forsake his inheritance.” Psalm 94:14
“Yet I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand. You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory. Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” Psalm 73:23-26
God is so good and loves us with everything He is and does. Trusting Him is a choice we make every moment of the day. What will you believe about yourself today? Will you trust God with your heart? God will never lie to you. In fact Jesus says He is literally “the way, the truth and the life.” John 14:6.
